Castlebar Mayo Cycle Loop Directions
0 to 10km
After exiting the train station turn right on the main road and then take the first right, on the N60. It widens and you pass two entrances on the left. Take the next left turn.
Ride through an industrial estate and turn right when you reach a t-junction. You pass an estate entrance on your left and then the high nets of a football ground. Take the next left soon after, in a cluster of houses.
After a long straight you reach a crossroads [5km marker] where you turn left on a narrow road. Then you go straight through a crossroads with the N5.
Cross a stone bridge and turn right at the t-junction that you reach in the village of Turlough. You pass the entrance to the Museum of Country Life and take the next right.
Then you go through a staggered crossroads with the N5 and past Turlough Church.
10 – 20km
Stay on this road. Ignore a right turn as you turn left and cross a stone bridge. You ignore another right, pass a cemetery and cross train tracks.
Turn right at the t-junction you reach and then take the first left up a narrow road. Climb up a steep hill and turn right by a t-junction by a stone wall at the top. Follow this road [15km marker] to the top and great views west.
Croagh Patrick is clearly seen 35km away. Carrowmore Lough is below this road.
Keep straight and descend the other side of this hill and turn right at the t-junction at the bottom. Follow this road straight through a crossroads.
20 – 30km
When you reach the train tracks follow this road as it turns left and runs beside them. Then turn right at the t-junction with the N60. You aren’t on this for long as you take the second right turn just 600m later.
Turn left when you reach a t-junction beside a barn. Turn right at the next t-junction and then take a sharp left at the next t-junction.
Stay on this road [25km marker] and you reach a crossroads which you passed earlier. Return to Castlebar the way you came – go through the crossroads and right at the t-junction you reach on the R373. Cycle into town.
