This ride takes you south from Clonmel on a short loop through the scenic Comeraghs and along part of the Nire Valley. Outstanding views are to be had throughout the route.
Although it is a hard route with two significant climbs, you finish up with a long 10km descent into Clonmel.
Layby Road is a scenic pass in the Comeraghs, with a fabulous long descent into Clonmel.
Comeraghs Cycle Loop Useful Info
You spend around half of your time on backroads and the other half on slightly busier regional roads. If traffic is a concern you should avoid the weekends and there is likely to be far less to contend with on the mountain roads in the Comeraghs.
Irish Rail runs 2/3 trains a day from Clonmel to Waterford City and Limerick Junction, from where you can connect to Limerick, Cork and Dublin.
Bus Eireann has buses from Dublin, Cork and Waterford to Clonmel. You can check the timetables online. There is an extra charge to carry a bicycle on the bus and it is dependent on there being room, so avoid busy periods if possible.
