Cycle Sligo – this short tour takes in a most of sights around Sligo Town, with a beautiful view of Lough Gill before visiting Tobernalt Holy Well.

You go on to Carrowmore and Knocknarea, which will need plenty of time to explore properly.

Cycle Sligo – this area is a fantastic place to cycle and this trip is an excellent introduction to it.

Attractions

Lough Gill – you have superb views over this lake from Green Road just outside the town.

Tobernalt Holy Well is a natural spring near Lough Gill that has been used by people for over 1500 years.

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetary is a large and well-preserved site close to Knocknarea.

Knocknarea is a prominent limestone hill near Strandhill with a large cairn at the top which is believed to house a tomb. It is named Meabh’s Cairn after the queen of legend.

Strandhill is a beach and town popular with tourists and locals alike.

Dolly’s Cottage can be seen on your return from Strandhill.

Sligo Abbey is in the centre of the town.

The R292 from Strandhill to Sligo can be busy, particularly at weekends, but it has a good shoulder and is by far the quickest way back to Sligo.

Sligo is on the Dublin – Sligo Train Line. Irish Rail has several trains a day.

Bus Eireann has services to Longford and Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Sligo, Galway and Derry, Ireland West Airport (Knock), Donegal, Letterkenny and Derry. It runs buses to Enniskillen and Belfast in Northern Ireland. All services run several times per day.
