Dooagh to Mulranny Cycle Directions


Section 1

0 to 10km

Head east from Dooagh towards Keel, 3.3km away. Go straight through [5km marker] and take the right turn at the first crossroads after – River Crossroads. It’s not far down to the beach.

Return to the main crossroads.


Section 2

10 – 20km

Ride through the crossroads. You cross the interior of the island on an empty road. At the next t-junction you reach, there is a sign pointing left for Keel.

The deserted village is located down this road. This collection of almost 100 ruined stone cottages is 3km away (6km return) and is clearly signposted on a right turn.

If you don’t want to make the optional trip there, go right for Doogort. Stay on this road [15km marker] and you pass the two beaches of Doogort. After that you reach a crossroads. Turn right for Bun an Churraigh, which you reach in 4.3km if you stay on this road.


Section 3

20 – 30km

Here you rejoin the island’s main road at a t-junction, where you turn left. Keep riding [25km marker] and you reach Achill Sound in another 7.6km.


Section 4

30 – 40km

Take the first right after crossing the sound and the road soon bends right. Keep on this road [35km marker] and you cycle alongside the water towards Currane.


Section 5

40 – 50km

At Currane the road bends left and after going through Bollinglanna passes through a beautiful stretch of deserted coastline [45km marker]. You pass a stone plaque to mark where a ship from the Spanish Armada was wrecked in 1588. Keep going straight.


Section 6

50 – 53km

When you reach the t-junction with the N59, Mulranny and the Mulranny Park Hotel is on the right and the main road to Achill is on the left.
