Glen of Aherlow Cycle Loop Directions
0 to 10km
On Tipperary Town Main Street, turn south onto Bridge Street, following the sign for Lisvernane. Turn right when you reach a roundabout and follow this road around a left hand bend to the hills ahead.
When you reach the climb [5km marker] it lasts 2.1km. The superb viewing area is some way after the top. Continue to descend to the bottom and then turn left at the t-junction with the R663.
Take the first right down a narrow road.
10 – 20km
Turn left when you reach a t-junction. At the second crossroads you come to there is a shrine. Turn left onto the narrow road here [15km marker]. Ignore the first right and stay on this road when it turns left, then right at a junction.
This brings you to a t-junction where you turn right and ride into Bansha.
When you get to the t-junction in the village with the N24, turn left, go around the corner and turn right over the small stone bridge.
20 – 30km
Stay on this road for 4.9km until it [25km marker] bends sharply left, with a small hill ahead. Take the sharp right turn with a small stone wall at the corner. It is the fourth right turn since Bansha. When you reach a t-junction, take the left, and the road soon bends left.
You can see the river now, and at the next small hill you can see the priory on your right in a field.
Continue on and it’s not far to the N74.
30 – 40km
You turn left at the t-junction with the N74. After 700m take the second right, signed Knockatoor. Take the second left, after 3.6km, down a straight road [35km marker].
You soon pass Gormanstown Castle, just beside the road. Keep going and when you reach a t-junction with a Yield sign, turn right, then take the first left soon after.
40 – 46km
Stay on this road all the way – keep left at a junction with a tree in the middle of it – and it brings you to a t-junction with the R661 near Tipperary Town. Go left.
Go straight through two roundabouts and turn left when you reach a t-junction. Then turn right on the t-junction with Main Street and go through another roundabout to return to the start of the route.
