Greystones – Sally Gap – Dublin Directions


Section 1

0 to 10km

From the DART station, turn left. There is access to the beach after 200m. Continue on to a roundabout and then take a left to go through Charlesland Estate. There are a series of roundabouts. At the 5th, take a left, signed for Wicklow and Newcastle.

Take the first right turn immediately and you leave Greystones. After [5km marker] 3km you come to a t-junction. take a right. From here its 2.3km, and under the N11 to Newtownmountkennedy, where you reach a t-junction.

Take a right at the junction, then a left at the church straight away. Follow the road as it bends left straight away. Soon you reach a crossroads. Go right, signed for Glendalough and Roundwood. Stay on the main road as it climbs up.


Section 2

10 – 20km

After you reach the top there is a slight descent and another slight uphill. Take the first right after this. It is at a right angle to the main road and unsigned. You [15km marker] will soon cross the reservoir on a stone-walled causeway.

Soon you reach a t-junction with the R755. Turn left, and take the next right which is signed for Sally Gap. The road begins to rise again.


Section 3

20 – 30km

It gradually gets steeper and the views get better and better. At the top, you can see Lough Tay far below you on your left. There is a short descent before you [25km marker] begin the last drag up to Sally Gap. Turn right here for Dublin.


Section 4

30 – 40km

After a few kilometres, there is a steep descent past Lough Bray, before climbing again to the Featherbeds. Ignore [35km marker] the right turn for Glencree. After the top of the Featherbeds, stay on the main road and descend through a wood.


Section 5

40 – 49km

You reach a car park at a sharp left turn. Take the very sharp right here and take Cruagh Road. Ignore the right turn for Glencullen and follow this road [45km marker] all the way down to a roundabout.

The surface is good and its a fast descent. Go straight through the roundabout and soon you reach the Yellow House Pub in Rathfarnham.
