This short and easy loop takes you around the sights of Kildare Town.

It is almost entirely flat, although it can be windy and there is not much shelter on the Curragh. There are a number of attractions in a very small area.

The Curragh is at the heart of Ireland’s world-famous horseracing industry.

Saint Brigid’s Cathedral and Round Tower stands tall in the middle of Kildare town. It is the highest round tower in Ireland that you can climb to the top of.

The Irish stud and Japanese Gardens is a popular attraction just south of the town.

The Curragh is a large flat plain which is designated as common land. The Curragh Racecourse is here in the heart of Ireland’s horse country. On many mornings you can see jockeys training there.

Kildare Curragh Cycle Loop Useful Info

It is a busy area, so avoid commuting times if you want to steer clear of trafiic. On the Curragh itself there are a lot of animals, and they are not fenced off, so that is a useful means of slowing down traffic. And as there are no hedgerows, visibility for both you and drivers is excellent.

Irish Rail runs numerous trains from Dublin to Cork that stop at Kildare (only some of them stop here). Each train can carry several bikes in a wagon.
