Lough Gur Cycle Loop Directions
0 to 10km
Head south from the centre of Charlevile on the N20. Ignore the first left beside the cemetery for the train station and take the next one shortly after.
Take the first left turn and soon you cross over the train tracks. Turn left at the t-junction that you reach [5km marker]. Turn left again at the next t-junction. You reach a t-junction at a sharp bend – turn left here.
Shortly after, you take the second right, on a left hand bend. This soon brings you to a crossroads with the R515, where you go straight through. Follow this road through several bends.
10 – 20km
You will reach a t-junction in Kilmallock beside a church.
Kilmallock Friary is to the right but you turn left. After crossing a bridge, keep right on the R512.
Immediately, take a narrow right hand turn signed for Bulgaden (L1585) [15km marker]. Stay on this road.
20 – 30km
Go straight through a crossroads and crossing a stone bridge turn left at the second crossroads. It is wide open with good visibility all around. Stay on this [25km marker] and you will reach the R516 at a t-junction.
Go right here and then take the first left, after 700m. Follow the road as it turns left, then right. When it next turns left, take the turnoff that goes straight ahead towards the small but prominent hill.
30 – 40km
You go around the hill and through the next crossroads, where the Honey Fitz theatre is on your left. Continue through another crossroads and see a sign for Lough Gur.
Take the next left, and then the next right where you can see the car park. The Lough is nearby, just keep going.
Return the way you came [35km marker]. When you reach the nearest crossroads, turn right, heading west. Soon you will see the lake on your right.
Soon you reach Holycross Crossroads. Turn right and cycle the short distance to Grange Stone Circle, on your right. Return the same way and turn right again to continue going west.
40 – 50km
Stay on this road and after 4.9km you will reach Greenlawn. Continue straight, past the church.
Take the first left at the community centre, following the R511 and the sign for Athlacca [45km marker]. It is 6.7km to Athlacca and you cross the R516. Stay on this road.
50 – 60km
After you cross the river, follow the road as it bends right around the village green. From here it is [55km marker] 4.5km to the R518 at Bruree. Just ignore any turnoffs.
Turn right at the t-junction with the R518 and cycle into Bruree. Take a left at the Post Office, which is just after The Central Bar on the left side of the road. It is signposted Charleville.
