Mitchelstown Caves Cycle Loop Directions
0 to 10km
Head north from the town’s main square. On the edge of town you reach a roundabout. Turn right on the N73, (third exit). This is the former main road from Cork to Dublin. The nearby motorway means that it is quiet now and has a good quality shoulder. After 4km you pass straight through a roundabout. After [5km marker] another 3.8km you pass beneath the motorway.
Take the second right turn here, down a narrow road.
10 – 20km
Ignore all turnoffs and you will reach the Mitchelstown Caves after 4 kilometres.
From the Caves, continue the way you were going and take the first right turn, signed for Ballyporeen. At the first t-junction take a right. Go straight [15km marker] to the town of Ballyporeen. When you reach the village, turn right at the crossroads on the R665 for Mitchelstown.
20 – 31km
Turn left onto a narrow road when the main road bends right. After a couple of km this road bends sharply right. Ignore the first right turn, but when the road rises, take the next right.
Go through a crossroads and keep straight [25km marker]. You reach an unusual crossroads. Ignore the right and left turns and go straight ahead – now you return to Mitchelstown by turning right at the t-junction you reach, crossing the motorway and then turning right at the first crossroads in the town. The main square is a short way down the road.
