Westport Croagh Patrick Cycle Loop Directions
0 to 10km
On leaving the train station turn right, away from the town centre. The road goes under the railway tracks and bends left. After 900m there is a narrow right turn up a hill. There is a small stone wall on the right side of the main road leading to it. Take it.
When you reach the first t-junction go right. Croagh Patrick can be seen in the distance. You then take the second right turn, signed Lanmore and Lankill [5km marker].
Stay on this road as it bends left at the next turnoff. You go up a hill and through a crossroads. Keep straight on this road for another 4.3km to reach a crossroads with the N59. Go straight through.
10 – 20km
Keep straight on this road [15km marker] for 6.4km until you reach the tiny village of Drummin. Turn right at the church and shrine here, following the sign for Louisburgh. The road climbs very gradually for 6km.
20 – 30km
The climb steepens at the end, with terrific views of Croagh Patrick and the surrounding area at the top. You then descend [25km marker] 4.2km to a t-junction, where you take a right, signed Louisburgh. From here it’s 3.1km to the main road, the R335, over a rise and down the other side, with fine views of Clew Bay.
30 – 40km
Cycle west through Lecanvey on the R335. Keep straight on this road [35km marker] through Murrisk at the foot of Croagh Patrick for 13km (there is a wide cycle lane on the run in to Westport).
40 – 45km
On the edge of Westport you reach a t-junction with the N59. Go left over a stone bridge. Go right immediately and ride down into the town. Pass the statue at the Obelisk and carry on downhill. Just before you cross the bridge, turn right on the South Mall.
Go through a crossroads and the road bends left by a green. Turn right at this junction and then immediately left and continue straight uphill through a mini-roundabout. The train station is 500m away on this road.
