The Westport Croagh Patrick Cycle Loop is a way to see the other side of the famous mountain by cycling south from Westport. Very quickly you are on quiet roads in the countryside. There a couple of short climbs.

The return to Westport offers great views of Clew Bay and a well-maintained cycle lane on the main road. Westport is the cycling capital of the region.

The Westport Croagh Patrick Cycle Loop is an excellent option to extend their stay for the many cyclists who visit this area.

Attractions

Croagh Patrick is Ireland’s holiest mountain and a popular pilgrimage site.

Westport Croagh Patrick Cycle Loop Useful Info

Most of this route is on very quiet backroads, apart from the section leaving Westport and, later, the road returning to Westport. However, this R road has an excellent bicycle path leading to the town.

Westport is a hugely popular destination for cyclists and works hard to attract them. The local scenery is outstanding.

Irish Rail has several trains a day from Dublin (Heuston) and Athlone to Westport.

Bus Eireann has the following services, each running several times per day: Dublin, Athlone, Ireland West Airport (Knock), Ballina, Castlebar, Galway, Limerick and Cork.
